Ragin' Cajuns baseball rising sophomore Chase Compton capped off a successful summer earlier this week when he was named Offensive MVP of the 2011 New York Collegiate Baseball League Championship series.
The Northshore High School product delivered a pair of doubles and two RBI in the series clincher for the Oneonta Outlaws on Tuesday, Aug. 2. He opened the scoring in the fourth inning with an RBI double and the Outlaws went on to finish off the Webster Yankees 5-1 to claim the NYCBL title.
Compton didn't just deliver for Oneonta in the championship series...he turned in an impressive postseason resume. During the playoffs, he hit .350 with a league leading five RBI over five contests.
The postseason performance put the exclamation point on a solid summer season for the Cajuns' first baseman.
Compton ended the regular season as the 10th-best hitter in the NYCBL with a .351 average. He slugged .440, reached base at a .386 clip, and drove in 24 runs.
A 2011 NYCBL All-Star, Compton ended his summer building momentum for his upcoming sophomore season with Louisiana. He wrapped up the season (playoffs included) posting at least one hit in 12 of the final 14 games.
Compton showed strong plate discipline over the summer, striking out only eight times in 155 at bats.
Compton's efforts helped Oneonta claim its second NYCBL championship in franchise history and first since the team relocated to Oneonta from Saratoga Springs in 2010
