GAME NIGHT STORY LINES
>>>The Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball dropped the first of their three games on the road trip to Savannah State on Wednesday night 41-36. The loss snapped a season-long three game winning streak and Louisiana is now 2-3 on the road and 4-5 overall.
>>>Senior and leading scorer Krystal Motley sat out the game due to a shoulder injury suffered earlier in the week.
>>>Michelle Brunker led the Cajuns in scoring for the first time this season with seven points and had three steals. Josie West had a solid game on the glass pulling down seven rebounds, all of which came in the first half.
>>>Louisiana held their opponent under 60 points for the fourth straight game on Wednesday. The defense is allowing just 50 points a game during that span, winning three out of the four games.
>>>The Cajuns look to avoid dropping back-to-back games for the first time since November 21 against McNeese State.
>>>UL head coach Errol Rogers returns to Bethune-Cookman where he spent four seasons as an assistant coach for the women's basketball team.
>>>The Cajuns will wrap up their road swing with a matchup against Mississippi State on Monday, December 19 at 7:00 p.m.
NOTES
>>>Kemi Rotibi has had at least one block in seven of the first nine games. The senior has 21 blocked shots on the year and is averaging 2.3 per game. She ranks second in the SBC.
>>>Rotibi has shot the ball well all season for the Cajuns. She is third in the conference in field goal percentage, shooting nearly 52 percent on 31-of-60 from the field.
THERE'S A FIRST FOR EVERYTHING
>>>UL failed to have a player reach double figures against Savannah State for the first time this season. The Cajuns are 2-1 this year when they have three or more players with 10-plus points.
>>>The Cajuns won the turnover battle for the fourth time this season in Wednesday night's loss. UL is now 3-1 on the season when accomplishing the feat.
>>>Louisiana is now 4-1 this year when holding their opponents to less than 60 points. The Cajuns record was just 3-5 last season when doing so.
>>>Despite holding a 22-16 halftime advantage, the Ragin' Cajuns were upended for the first time this season when going into the locker rooms holding the lead.
TENACIOUS DEFENSE
>>>The 41 points given up to Savannah State were the fewest points allowed this season by the defense. The Ragin' Cajun's defense held SSU to 29 percent shooting from the field on the game.
>>>UL held SSU sophomore guard Ezzine Kalu to nine points, which is the lowest point total she has scored all year. Kalu was averaging over 20 points per contest and had scored in double figures every game heading into Wednesday night.
A NIGHT TO FORGET ABOUT
>>>Although the defense played well, UL struggled to find a rhythm offensively. UL shot a season-low 29 percent from the field scoring 36 points, including just 14 in the second half.
>>>The 36 points scored by the Ragin' Cajuns against Savannah State was the lowest output in a game since losing to UALR 39-35 on February 28, 2009.
SERIES HISTORY (Series Tied 1-1)
>>>The Cajuns won the first meeting between the two schools 86-23 on November 24, 2006
>>>The Wildcats evened the overall series by winning the matchup last year 63-61. The game was played at Earl K. Long Gym in Lafayette and ended on a buzzer beater by Bethune-Cookman's Jasmine Elum.
>>>Head coach Errol Rogers is returning to Bethune-Cookman for the third time since beginning his era at Louisiana. Rogers was an assistant coach for the Wildcats women's basketball team from 1999-03, and is 1-1 against his former squad.
UP NEXT FOR RAGIN' CAJUNS
>>> The Cajuns will conclude their road trip when they travel to Starksville, Mississippi on Monday to take on Mississippi State. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
