Cajuns Struggle with Toreros Pressure in Loss

Louisiana's womens basketball team was bested on Friday night by a very skilled San Diego squad 103-44.
The Ragin' Cajuns (1-4, 0-0) built an early 6-3 lead on a couple buckets from Krystal Motley and another one by Mercedes Johnson. Johnson's basket at the 19:06 mark put her fourth all-time on the Cajuns scoring list.
The Toreros (3-1, 0-0) used an 18-4 run that included two steals and lay-ups by senior Dominique Conners to take a 21-10 advantage.
UL's star scorer, Johnson, left the game with an injury after colliding with Josie West with 2:22 remaining in the half.
Louisiana shot just 26 percent from the field, and they couldn't seem to hold onto the ball as San Diego forced 15 turnovers coasting into halftime up 46-17.
The Ragin' Cajuns were led by Motley who had nine points on 4-of-8 shooting. Morgan Woodrow had 10 points and eight rebounds in the first half for the Toreros.
UL had no answer for the Toreros in the second half as the home team shot out of the gate on a 25-2 run, increasing their lead to 71-19.
San Diego kept the pressure on and built their biggest lead of the game 97-34 with 4:46 left in the game.
USD had 27 points off of 28 turnovers and 56 points in the pant in route to the win. The Toreros shot 53 percent from while Louisiana shot just 30 percent leading to a season low point total.
San Diego had five players finish in double figures led by senior Izzy Chilcott who finished with 20.
Motley made a basket in the second half giving her 11 for the game, marking the third straight game reaching double digit points.
The Ragin' Cajuns close out their four game road trip in a showdown with Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
