Murray Shines at ITA All-American

The Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team had a good showing at the ITA Men's All-American Championships Pre-Qualifying earlier this week as senior Carlin Murray advanced his way to singles qualifying round.
“The guys performed reasonably well at yet another top level event,” said head men's tennis coach Mark Jeffrey. “Murray was able to get through four rounds and make it to the qualifying draw. That was a good accomplishment for him early in the year, but all-in-all we are definitely not satisfied, and we have a long way to go to get this group functioning at a high level on a day to day basis.”
Murray advanced to the pre-qualifying finals after defeating Beau Blackshear of Texas A&M 6-2, 6-0 and Filip Dzanko of DePaul 6-4, 1-6, 7-5.
In the final round of pre-qualifying, Murray went on to defeat Jame McKie of Drake in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2 to move on to the ITA All-American Championships Qualifying.
The senior from Philadelphia, Pa. saw his ITA All-American run come to an end in the first round of qualifying after falling to Georgy Batrakov of BYU 7-5, 6-1.
Yanick Mandl also picked up a win at the ITA All-American posting a first round pre-qualifying win over Ahmet Sarigly of UNC-Greensboro, 6-0, 6-2. Mandl was knocked out of the tournament in the second round dropping a hard fought contest to Luke Marchese of Duke 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(4).
Both Rick DeGroot and Damian Farinola bowed out after the first round of pre-qualifying. DeGroot took Tennessee Tech's Alex Chen to the wire falling in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Farinola fell to Matheus Pereira of Wichita State, 6-1, 6-4.
“We left some on the table with Mandl and DeGroot losing close matches, while Farinola gained some valuable experience,” Jeffrey added.
