Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns softball team had its Senior Day spoiled as Louisiana-Monroe was able to steal a 2-1 victory on Sunday afternoon.
Lana Bowers, Kelly Cormier, Brittany Cuevas, Jessica Dupont, Vallie Gaspard, Courtney Trahan and Melissa Verde started their final game of their careers at Lamson Park.
With the loss, the Cajuns finish the regular season with a record of 38-16 and a 19-5 mark in the league. It was the first Sun Belt home loss of the season and the Cajuns finish the regular season 19-2 on their home turf.
The Warhawks grabbed the early lead with a two-run home run by Roxane Cassel in the first inning.
UL was able to cut into the lead after loading the bases with one out on a hit and back-to-back walks in the bottom of the first. Verde scored UL's first run after Bowers was hit by a pitch. But the Cajuns could not draw even with ULM, stranding three runners at the end of the frame.
Louisiana-Monroe had a chance to widen its gap in the top of the third. Runners reached first and second, moving into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt. But Cuevas fanned one batter and forced a ground out to get out of the jam.
However, the Cajuns would not come closer to the Warhawks' lead, stranding six runners on the day and hitting 11 fly outs. The Warhawks retired the final 11 Cajuns in order.
Brittany Cuevas suffered the loss after pitching all 7.0 innings. She allowed four hits, two runs and walked two. She struck out four in the effort.
Three of the seven seniors were responsible for UL's three hits. Gaspard, Cormier and Verde each posted one hit a piece.
The Cajuns will now prepare for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament which starts on Wednesday in Mobile, Ala. UL will be the No. 1 seed and face No. 8 Middle Tennessee on Wednesday. Game time has yet to be determined.
