Cajuns Fall In Overtime Heartbreaker

"We played great," said UL head coach Scot Weiland. "This was one of our best games this year and it's disappointing to lose. But I'm proud of the way the girls played tonight. They fought hard and never quit."
Both squads played to a 0-0 standstill in the first half. The Ragin' Cajuns out shot the Lady Demons 4-3 and recorded three shots on goal. Chelsea Balestra fired off two shots of her own but Northwestern State's Lindy Strahan was able to turn both away to preserve the tie heading into halftime.
The second half of the match played out very much like the first half. Both teams kept the other in check, with UL controlling most of the flow of play. The Ragin' Cajuns only allowed the Lady Demons to get take one shot the entire second half. UL managed six shots of its own with Maci Andrus taking the only shot on goal.
Northwestern State came close to scoring mid way through the overtime time period, but Lauren Berlingo made a leaping save. It was to no avail however as on the Lady Demons next possession Chelsy Gibbs was able get behind the Cajuns' defense and score the winning goal. Sarah Sadler was credited with the assist.
The Ragin' Cajuns valiant effort was led by Chelsea Balestra who three shots on goal. Lauren Berlingo garnered the loss and had three saves on the night.
Next up for the Ragin' Cajuns will be a home contest against Baylor on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
