Cajuns Fall to Ole Miss in 10

LAFAYETTE-Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns softball team dropped to 1-2 on the season as they dropped a 4-0 decision to the Ole Miss Rebels in 10 innings at Alfred and Helen Lamson Ragin' Cajuns Softball Park.
The Cajuns held the visiting Rebels scoreless for nine complete innings before surrendering four runs in the top of the 10th inning.
The loss overshadowed a career outing by sophomore Donna Bourgeois. She recorded a career-high 14 strikeouts in a career-best 10 innings of work. Bourgeois, who also pitched Friday, retired the first eight batters of the game in order. Going back to Friday, Bourgeois retired 28 batters in a row before allowing a base runner.
Bourgeois surrendered four runs ? two earned runs ? tossing her second complete game of the season. She scattered seven hits on the afternoon and did not allow an extra base hit.

In the top of the fourth, the Rebels loaded the bases, but Bourgeois closed out the inning with a strikeout. The fourth inning marked the first time in two games that Bourgeois allowed a base runner past first base.
In the seventh, eighth and ninth innings, the Cajuns worked out of jams. With runners in scoring position and no out in each inning, Bourgeois was able to keep the Rebels off the board. In the seventh, after allowing the first two batters to reach, Bourgeois fanned the next three batters she faced. In the eighth inning with two on and no outs, the Cajuns got a strikeout, fielder's choice and groundout to end the threat. In the ninth inning, the lead off batter advanced all the way to third base, but a pair of strikeouts and a groundout halted the Rebel charge.
The Cajuns did not fair as well in the 10th inning. The inning started with a fielding error and back-to-back singles loaded the bases.
