Cajuns Improve to 3-0

Thibodaux, La. ? Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team continued their hot play in February by picking up their third win in as many tries. The Cajuns defeated Nichols State 5-2 on Thursday to bolster their record to 3-0 on the season. With the win the men's tennis team becomes the only UL athletic program to start their season off with three wins during this academic year; baseball has not played a game yet.
The Cajuns started off precariously with a defeat in the double portion of the match. It was the first time on the year that the Cajuns failed to pick up the doubles point. Conference player of the week, Javier Pulgar and Arlen Domoney were the only UL pair to pick up a win in the doubles matches with 8-3 victory.
The Cajuns turned it on during the singles matches and won five out of the possible six points. Every Cajun who won did so in straight sets.
Piotr Banas won 6-2, 6-2 in the first position. Pulgar followed him with a 6-2, 7-5 victory. Nichols State closed the gap when UL's Bradley Bristow fell 2-6, 2-6.
Yanick Mandl, Domoney and Neil Schneider helped the Cajuns clinch the win over Nichols with their wins. Mandl won 6-2, 6-2 from the fourth spot, Domoney won 6-1, 6-2 from the fifth spot and Neil Schneider won 6-3, 6-2 from the sixth spot.
Head Coach Mark Jeffrey had this to say about the match, “We came out slow but picked up the win, we can't play the way we did against top-50 teams in the country so we need to fix this mistake quickly.”
The Cajuns will now travel to Florida for matches with Central Florida and Florida Atlantic. The Cajuns face the Knights on Saturday at 11 a.m. and the Owls, Sunday at noon.
