Rain, Friars Can?t Stop No. 19 Ragin? Cajuns

LAFAYETTE-Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns softball team collected 11 hits, including six extra base hits, as they downed
The Cajuns battled a 40-minute rain delay, but did not let the weather dampen their night as they cruised to an 11-run victory.
Melissa Verde and Karli Hubbard continued their excellent play in the Louisiana Classics Tournament. Verde finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs scored, three RBI and a double, while Hubbard went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI.
Codi Runyan belted her first home run of the season, while Ashley Ray collected her first collegiate hit ? a double. Runyan finished the night 1-for-3 with three RBI.
Lana Bowers and Katie Smith each drew three free passes each and Smith tied Bridges with three runs scored.
In the circle, Donna Bourgeois picked up her third win of the year. The sophomore worked 3.0 innings of relief, striking out six batters and surrendering one walk. Bourgeois did not allow a hit on the night.
Bourgeois entered the game in relief of starting pitcher Ashley Brignac. Brignac, pitching in her first game of the season, worked 2.0 innings. She surrendered a pair of runs on two hits. She fanned five batters and issued just one walk. Brignac's night ended as weather caused a 40-minute delay in play.
Brittany Cuevas and Amanda Hill each worked a scoreless inning of relief each.
The Cajuns wasted little time scratching the scoreboard, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. Smith led off the game with a walk and moved into scoring position with her eighth steal of the season. Hubbard laid down a bunt single to give the Cajuns runners on the corners. Verde cleared the bases with one swing as she doubled to right field to give UL a 2-0 advantage. Bridges followed with a two-run homer to straight away center field to give Louisiana a 4-0 cushion after a half inning of play.
The Friars used a pair of solo home runs to trim the Cajuns lead to just 5-2. After surrendering a leadoff home run, Brignac responded with back-to-back strikeouts. A second home run pulled

The Cajuns scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning thanks to Runyan's three-run shot to left field. Bridges' first collegiate grand slam provided four of the five runs UL scored in the seventh inning.
