No. 19 Ragin? Cajuns Blank La. Tech

LAFAYETTE-Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns softball team collected just eight hits, but scored 11 runs as they blanked Louisiana Tech, 11-0 in five innings in their second game of the 23rd Annual Louisiana Classics at Alfred and Helen Lamson Ragin' Cajuns Softball Park.
The Cajuns had a pair of players collect multiple hits in the game. Karli Hubbard finished the game 2-for-2 with three runs scored an RBI. Hubbard was one of four Cajuns with an extra base hit as she doubled in the third inning.
Lana Bowers had a solid game, finishing the day 2-for-4 with three RBI to her credit. Bowers collected her first double of the season in the game.
Melissa Verde also finished the game with three RBI. The junior ended the game 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a double.
Starting pitcher Donna Bourgeois worked 3.2 scoreless innings, taking a perfect game into the fourth inning. The sophomore fanned seven batters and did not allow a base runner.

In the fifth inning, Shari Sigur entered to close out the game. Sigur threw just two pitches, but recorded the last out to secure the shutout.
The five-inning mercy rule saw 19 Ragin' Cajuns players enter the game.
The Ragin' Cajuns struck early posting three runs in the top of the first inning. Katie Smith led off the inning with a walk and Hubbard followed with a single to third base. Melissa Verde doubled to left center field, plating Smith and Hubbard. Verde advanced to third on a throwing error by the Lady Techsters. Gabriele Bridges wasted little time driving in Verde, hitting the fourth pitch she saw off of the right center field wall. The Cajuns failed to plate any more runners in the inning but headed into the bottom of the first with a 3-0 advantage.
The Cajuns added a run in the third inning to increase their lead to 4-0. Hubbard led off the inning with a double and moved to third on a long fly ball. With two outs, Bowers hit the ball to the Louisiana Tech second baseman, but the fielder was unable to handle the ball allowing Bowers to reach safely and Hubbard to score easily from third.
The Cajuns added a run in the fifth inning to provide the final margin of 11-0.
