Miners Edge Cajuns in OT at Miner Classic

The loss drops the Cajuns to 0-2-1 on the season, while UTEP improves to 3-0-0.
“We played a man down for about 75-percent of the match, but our team played with incredible heart,” head coach Scot Wieland remarked. “They played their hearts out, especially with everything that is going on this week.
“This was a good weekend for us. We played with a lot of heart and found our level.”
Goalie Stephanie Weston took the loss, but recorded six saves on the day, as the defense pitched a shutout for the first 90-minutes of the match.
Offensively, the Cajuns failed to put a goal on the scoreboard, but managed 11 shots including two shots on goal.
Heather Fuller led all Cajuns with five shots on the day with both of the Cajuns' shots on goal. Kelli Jestes had a pair of shots on the day, while Carleigh Martin, Courtney Hofland, Callie Oliver and Megan Riley each registered shots in the match.
Tameka Sumter recorded the golden goal for the Miners.
The match was physical with the Cajuns recording 13 fouls on the afternoon compared to nine by UTEP.
