LAFAYETTE- Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns played inspired soccer but came up empty handed Sunday as they fell 2-1 to the FAU Owls, in game that featured four yellow cards and a penalty kick. The Cajuns fell to 2-3-1 in Sun Belt Conference play and 4-8-2 overall.

The Cajuns had plenty of chances in the first half starting when Heather Fuller took a shot from about 30 yards out that sailed just high.

Callie Oliver had a chance with 10 minutes left in the first half, but the FAU keeper took the ball off her boot to make the save.

The game remained in a deadlock until the waning minutes of the first half when a free ball found the foot of Gabriela DeVries; who touched it once before letting a shot go from 25 yards out. The shot sailed past Stephanie Weston and gave the Owls a 1-0 lead at the end of one.

The Cajuns tied the game in the 59th minute when UL was awarded a penalty kick. Junior Courtney Hofland took the penalty and put it in the back of the net. With the goal Hofland is now UL's all-time leading goal scorer with 13 career goals.

FAU tallied their second goal of the game when Sonia Richards found teammate Ashley Mannarino, who put the ball in the back of the net in the 80th minute.

The Cajuns Melissa Minton led the team with two shots on goal.

The Cajuns are on the road next weekend to take on Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee. UL will face off with WKU on Friday Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. before meeting Middle Tennessee Sunday Oct. 19 at 1 p.m.
