Cajuns Shutout by No. 5 Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Following Louisiana's win over Seton Hall on Saturday morning, the Cajuns turned around and faced the #5 ranked team in the country, the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Alabama scored a single run in their half of the first inning, two more in the fifth and added three runs in the bottom of the sixth en route to a 6-0 win over the Cajuns.

Chrissy Owens pitched a complete game shut-out for the Crimson Tide and improved her record to 9-0 on the season. Brittany Cuevas suffered her first loss of the season and her career for the Cajuns and now stands at 11-1.

Alabama first baseman, Charlotte Morgan, had an RBI in the first inning on a fielder's choice.

Michelle Menningmann led off the Tide fifth with a solo homerun and Mandy Burford added an RBI single upping the Tide's lead to 3-0 after five complete.

Brittany Rogers added a single driving in Alabama's final two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Louisiana had six hits in the game against Owens. Holly Tankersley led the Cajun hitting attack with two singles. Meagan Godwin had a two out double in the Cajuns sixth inning. Codi Runyan and Karli Hubbard added singles.

The Cajuns mounted their best rally in the top of the third inning as Runyan led off with a single to left field and Tankersley was hit by a pitch. Lacey Bertucci's shot to third was fielded by Alambama third baseman Kelley Montalvo on a spectacular back handed play, turning a potential double down the line into a double play.

With the loss the Cajuns fall to 20-3 and Alabama improves to a perfect 19-0. The Cajuns will be back in action on Sunday afternoon at 1:30, as they get another shot at the Crimson Tide in the final game of the Easton Spring Fling Tournament.
