Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns held a 10-point lead in the second half, only to fall 72-59 at ULM on Saturday afternoon.

UL (4-6, 0-1) led 40-30 at the 15:53 mark, but over the next nine minutes, the Cajuns would commit six turnovers and have eight fouls called against them.

ULM (8-3, 1-0) outscored the Cajuns 26-2 to build a 56-42 edge with 6:51 remaining.

The Warhawks, who were called for just three fouls and shot 16 free throws during the stretch, shot 81.8 (9-for-11) percent from the floor during their run.

Sonora Edwards broke Louisiana's scoreless stretch at 4:55 to help the Cajuns take a 42-39 lead, but ULM countered with a triple by Dyamond Hogg to tie the game with 10:04 remaining.

From there, ULM scored the next 14 points to take control of the game.

In the game, UL made two more field goals than ULM, but shot only 12 free throws, compared to 39 by the Warkhawks.

Edwards led the Cajuns with 17 points and 10 rebounds ? her third double-double of the season and 15th of her career.  Whitney Dunlap scored 13 points and Alicia McDaniel added 10 points before fouling out.  Elaine McCants registered a game-high nine assists.

The Cajuns battled through a tough first half to take a nine-point lead at the break.  Both teams hit double figures in fouls and turnovers in the first 20 minutes.  The difference was shooting, as UL hit 56.5 percent of their shots compared to ULM's 29.0 percent.

Good defense was prevalent early for both teams, as the Cajuns led 11-10 at the midway point of the first half.  No player on either team had more than one field goal at this point.

Courtney Ratliff connected on her second basket of the game and the first basket for either team in nearly four minutes, to give the Cajuns a 13-10 edge.   Kina Miller followed with a lay-up to extend the Cajuns lead to 15-10 at the 7:02 mark.

Dunlap converted a fast break lay-up off a nice cross-court pass from McCants to help the Cajuns take a seven-point lead, 19-12, with less than five minutes to play in the opening stanza.

After the teams traded baskets for the next several possessions, Dunlap converted an acrobatic shot in the paint as she was fouled.  When she completed the three-point play, the Cajuns held a double-figure lead, 26-16, with 2:43 left in the first half.

The Cajuns will enjoy a few days off for the holidays, before returning to action with a road swing at Savannah State on Dec. 28 and at Mississippi State on Dec. 30.

UL returns home for the New Year with a pair of doubleheaders in the Cajundome.  The Cajuns battle Arkansas State on Jan. 3 and New Orleans on Jan. 5.  The women will tip at 4:30pm, while the men are slated to tip at 7:05pm.
