Cajuns Dismiss Colonels

UL (4-5) never trailed, and led the game for all but a total of 77 seconds.
The Cajuns cruised through the second half with a big lead. UL outscored NSU (1-8) 12-4 to start the second stanza to take a 25-point lead at the 15:15 mark.
Alicia McDaniel led all players with 17 points. Courtney Ratliff and Whitney Dunlap each added 10 points. Sonora Edwards posted nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Elaine McCants, making her first start of the season, scored seven points and registered six assists in 22 minutes. Onna Charles had nine points and is now 37 points shy of 1,000.
The Cajuns built a 17-point lead after the opening 20 minutes.
The teams battled early, with the score knotted at 9-9 after the first four minutes.
UL then went on a 13-0 run to grab a 22-9 lead at the 9:26 mark. The Cajuns used baskets in the paint by Edwards, McDaniel and Dunlap before McDaniel hit three consecutive shots.
The Cajuns hot hand cooled slightly, allowing NSU to get back into the game. The Colonels closed within six points, 27-21, with 3:51 to play in the half.
McDaniel started an 8-0 burst with a triple from the corner, giving her 15 first half points, just two away from her career high. Ratliff added a lay-up and Edwards completed a three-point play to give the hosts a 35-21 edge.
Triples from McCants and Charles helped the Cajuns finish the half with a 41-24 lead.
The Cajuns finish 2007 with a three-game road trip. UL begins Sun Belt play on Saturday at
