BATON ROUGE, La.-Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team dropped to 1-3 on the season after falling 72-37 at the hands of No. 5 Louisiana State.  The Tigers built a 19-point lead in the first half, and continued to flourish in the second stanza as the Cajuns could get nothing going.

For the second straight game, the Cajuns were plagued by turnovers.  UL committed 26 turnovers that led to 33 LSU points.  The Cajuns did out rebound the Tigers, grabbing 39 boards compared to 37 by the Bayou Bangles.

Leading the way for the Cajuns was Baton Rouge native Whitney Dunlap.  The junior netted 12 points and added four assists to led UL in both categories.

Sonora Edwards (Snook, Texas) scored 10 points, while Onna Charles (New Iberia, La.) netted eight.

Senior center Kina Miller (Aurora, Ill.) led the Cajuns with a career-high nine rebounds.  Alicia McDaniel (Houston, Texas) was held scoreless, but contributed seven boards on the night.

First-team All-American Sylvia Fowles led all scorers with 21 points.  She pulled down 12 rebounds on the night and was the only player for either team to have a double-double.

The Cajuns played the Tigers even for the first four and a half minutes of the game.

LSU's Quinanna Chaney netted the game's first basket just under two-minutes into the contest, but Edwards answered with a lay-up less than a minute later.

Fowles gave the Tigers the lead, 4-2, at the 17:14 mark of the first half, but Miller responded with a jumper over Fowles knotting the score at 4-4 with 16:58 to play in the half.

It was all Louisiana State over the next 8:14 as the Cajuns failed to score and the Tigers went on a 17-0 run.  The run was punctuated by a dunk by Fowles.  The All-American stole the ball from Bronson Rodgers at half court and then sent the 3,549 in attendance into a frenzy with her one-handed slam.

Jasmine Barnes (Baton Rouge, La.) ended the scoring drought with a three-pointer cutting the LSU advantage to 21-7.

Dunlap followed with a triple of her own to cut the Tiger lead to just 11.  A jumper by Dunlap cut the advantage to single digits with just under seven minutes to play in the half.

The Tigers responded with an 11-0 run that spanned just under four minutes to push the lead to 32-12.

Despite a pair of baskets by Charles in the final three minutes of the half, the Tigers took a 35-16 advantage into intermission.

The second half proved to be much of the same.  The Cajuns were never able to cut the Louisiana State lead to less than 16 in the second stanza.

The Cajuns opened up the second half with a triple from Edwards to cut the lead to 16.  A quick LSU basket pushed the lead back to 18, but Edwards once again trimmed the lead to 16 with a lay-up.

The Tigers extended their lead to 32 at 62-30 with 7:26 to play.  Louisiana State used a 14-3 run to build their 32-point advantage.  A triple by Dunlap was the only basket UL could muster in that five-minutes stretch.

The Ragin' Cajuns will return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 28 as they play their first home game in historic Earl K. Long Gym.  The Cajuns will play host to in-state foe Tulane in a game scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
