Box Score

Lafayette, La. - Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns stepped out of conference on Wednesday night to defeat Savannah State by a final score of 82-51.

UL wins their 18th game of the season against just six losses.  The Cajuns finished their non-conference slate with a 9-3 record.

SSU falls to 8-15.

All nine Cajuns dressed for the game played at least 16 minutes and all nine players scored at least two field goals.

The Cajuns used a 21-7 start to the second half to take a 26-point lead, 56-30, at the 11:06 mark.

Yolanda Jones scored eight points on the burst to help the senior forward to her 12th double-double of the season (27th career).

SSU had just one field goal in the first 11 minutes of the second half, but did convert eight free throws over that span.

Jones led all players with 21 points and 14 rebounds.  Three other Cajuns scored in double figures, including Courtney Ratliff and Amber Williams with 12 and 11 points off the bench, respectively.

A lackluster first half by the Cajuns was redeemed by a 17-0 run after SSU had taken a three-point lead.

The Cajuns led 4-0 in the game's first four minutes before the team's traded three-point baskets.  Jones followed Onna Charles triple with four straight points to give the Cajuns an 11-3 lead at 14:26.

As the Cajuns continued to miss shots, SSU came back to tie the game at 17-17 with 6:42 remaining.

A three-pointer by Williams temporarily put UL back in front, but the Lady Tigers scored six straight points to build a three-point edge, 23-20, at 5:15.

The Cajuns needed less than one minute to get the lead back.  Williams' offensive rebound and put-back preceded a triple in the corner by Ratliff.

Kina Miller and Alicia McDaniel each added two straight baskets pushing the hosts lead to 33-23 with 36 seconds to play in the opening half.

Jeanenne Colbert converted a fast break lay-up at the end of the half to finish the Cajuns run.

Louisiana returns to Sun Belt play on Saturday with a game vs. New Orleans.  Tip is slated for 4:30pm as the first game of a Cajundome doubleheader with the Cajuns men's team.
