Lafayette, La. - Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns won their nineteenth game of the season thanks to a 75-47 victory over New Orleans on Saturday afternoon at the Cajundome.
The first place Cajuns improve to 19-6, 10-3, while UNO falls to 7-17 (1-12).
Head coach J. Kelley Hall now sits one win away from his second 20-win season in the last three years. The Cajuns 10 Sun Belt wins ties the 2004-05 squad for the most conference wins in school history.
The game was decided in the first half. The Cajuns shot 60 percent in the opening 20 minutes, while holding UNO to 23 percent.
The Cajuns trailed 5-2 early, but re-took the lead with the help of excellent defense. UL held the Privateers without a field goal for 10:03.
A 28-2 run resulted from defensive pressure and running the floor. Alicia McDaniel led the charge with 10 points, while Yolanda Jones and Sonora Edwards each scored six points during the run.
When the barrage was over, the Cajuns led 30-7 at the 7:57 mark and UNO was still looking for their third field goal.
UNO was helped by three three-point baskets by Jada Frazier, but the Cajuns had too much offense to allow the visitors to cut into their lead.
A driving lay-up by Jeanenne Colbert with one second remaining in the first half gave the Cajuns a 46-23 lead.
An 11-2 jolt midway through the second half pushed the Cajuns lead up to 35 points, 69-34, with 7:50 remaining. McDaniel and Edwards each supplied four points during the run.
Edwards led all players with 18 points and 11 rebounds, her fifth double-double of the season and 10th of her career. Jones enjoyed her 28th career double-double and 13th this season with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while also adding five assists. McDaniel finished with 14 points and Onna Charles had 13 points.
The Cajuns will travel to Jonesboro, Ark. to face Arkansas State on Wednesday night.
