Box Score

Murfreesboro, Tenn. - Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns fell victim to a horrendous second half en route to falling at #19 Middle Tennessee by a final score of 84-57.

A four-point game at the break, Middle Tennessee (19-3, 11-0) outscored the Cajuns 29-5 in the first 7:34 of the second half to break open a tightly contested game.  The hosts made 6-of-10 three-point shots during the surge after struggling mightily in the opening half.

A quick 12-2 burst to open the second half gave MT a 45-31 lead just 2:38 into the final half.  Louisiana (17-6, 9-3) hurt themselves with four early turnovers.

Back-to-back-to back three-point shots started an 11-0 run that extended the hosts lead to 25 points, 59-34, with 13:13 remaining.  The Cajuns committed six more turnovers during the run and seemed to lose faith during that stretch.

The hosts eighth triple of the second half, coupled with 13 Cajuns second half turnovers, gave MT a 70-30 lead at the 8:25 mark.

Sonora Edwards and Yolanda Jones led the Cajuns, with each recording a double-double.  Edwards finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Jones had 10 points and 14 rebounds.

MT attempted a school-record 48 three-point shots.

The Cajuns trailed by four points at the half, mostly due to 14 turnovers in the first 20 minutes.  UL shot 38 percent in opening stanza and held the Blue Raiders to 29 percent shooting.

Edwards led the Cajuns to an early lead.  Her eight points and seven rebounds gave UL a 13-9 edge at 12:35.

MT started the game misfiring three-pointers, unsuccessful on their first eight attempts.

The Blue Raiders first successful triple gave them their first lead, 14-13, at 11:58, and their second triple (on their 15th attempt), pushed the hosts edge to 22-17 at 7:31.

A jumper by Jones and two free throws by Jeanenne Colbert pulled the Cajuns within one point, 22-21, at 6:11, but MT used two baskets to take back their five-point lead.

The Cajuns used a 6-0 run to grab the lead back.  Two from the stripe by Colbert and one apiece from Onna Charles and Alicia McDaniel preceded a long jumper by Charles to give UL a 27-26 lead with 2:01 remaining in the half.

Tied with less than one minute to play, the hosts used four free throws in the final 33 seconds to take a four-point lead at the break.
