LAFAYETTE – Louisiana-Lafayette right fielder Danyele Gomez has put forth a performance for the ages over the last two weeks of play. Her line includes seven home runs and 25 RBI with a 1.049 slugging percentage.

It came as no surprise that on Monday the Metairie native was named the Sun Belt Conference's Softball Player of the Week for the second consecutive week following her performance at Western Kentucky.

Last week's USA Softball National Player of the Week made it two straight weeks with double digit RBI as she collected 11 in the Ragin' Cajuns four-game series at Western Kentucky. Gomez now has 25 RBI over Louisiana-Lafayette's last 12 games.

The junior right fielder hit four home runs over the WKU series including three in Sunday's sweep. Her home run in Sunday's game one clinched a share of the Sun Belt title and her two home runs four RBI in game two powered the Cajuns to an outright championship.

In six games total last week she hit .409 (9-for-22), scored six runs and had a 1.000 slugging percentage. In the WKU series the Metairie native went 7-for-16 (.438) picking up 19 total bases in 16 at bats for a 1.188 slugging percentage.

Gomez picked up her fourth multi-home run game of the season in Sunday's second game with the Hilltoppers. Her second home run of the game was the 50th of her career as she joined former All-American Alana Addison as the only players in program history to reach the 50-home run plateau.

The Sun Belt's leader in base hits and home runs hit safely in each game during the week's six outings to stretch her personal career-best hitting streak to 13 games – the longest hitting streak by a Cajuns player since Becky McMurtry posted a 15-game hitting streak during the 2003 season.

Gomez picked up a weekly Sun Belt honor for the fourth time in her career and second time this season. It's the first time she's won the award in consecutive weeks.

The Ragin' Cajuns have now won 46 Sun Belt weekly honors in four-plus seasons under former Ragin' Cajuns All-American and current head coach Stefni Lotief. This week's awards run the Cajuns season total of Sun Belt weekly honors to 11.

No. 14 Louisiana-Lafayette, the 2005 Sun Belt Conference regular season champion, will conclude its regular season this weekend by hosting Middle Tennessee Saturday-Sunday, May 7-8 at Ragin' Cajuns Softball Park. Doubleheaders will be played at 1 p.m. both days.
