2003 Sun Belt Conference Player of the
Year; became the first player in league history to repeat as recipient of the
award...Member of the 2003 All-Sun Belt Conference First Team...Member of the
2003 Verizon Academic All-District VI Second Team..Member of the 2003 NCAA
Region 6 All-Tournament Team...2003 NFCA All-America Candidate...Entered
the 2003 postseason riding a 10-game hitting streak - her second double-digit
hitting streak of the season and third of her Cajuns career...The streak was
snapped in the Cajuns game against Cal State Fullerton May 16 at the NCAA Region
6....Had a 15-game hitting streak from March 14-April 13 in which she hit
22-for-36 (.611 average) with 20 runs scored, six doubles, five home runs and 19
RBI. Her slugging percentage was 1.194 and her on-base percentage during the
streak was .700...Has drawn 33 walks to just 19 strikeouts and leads the
Cajuns with an on-base percentage of .543. Added to her 13 hit by pitches and 61
base hits she has been aboard the basepaths 107 times this season in 197 plate
appearances....From March 1-April 13 she did not commit an error in 22
consecutive games at third base – a span of 61 chances without a miscue...Drove
in the game-winning runs in the Cajuns doublheader sweep of FIU Saturday, April
20 a sweep which enabled the Cajuns to claim their third straight Sun Belt
regular season title...Leads the Cajuns in runs scored (58) and doubles
(16)...Ranks nationally in batting average and RBI per game...Had a string of 18
errorless games at third base before committing an error against San Diego State
in the NCAA Region 6 opener...Has committed just six errors all season
(176 total chances) and only two since March 2 - a span of 46 games...Hit
her 14th home run of the season in the sixth inning versus San Diego State in
the Cajuns opener at the NCAA Region 6; has now hit 28 home runs since
transferring to UL Lafayette from Illinois State in 2002.
2002: In her first season with the Lady Cajuns softball program, McMurtry was named the Sun Belt Conference Player and Newcomer of the Year....Also named a 2002 NFCA All-America second team member and NFCA All-South Region first team member...Was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference First Team...In Lady Cajuns’ three-game series at Arizona, March 22-24, was 4-for-7 with three home runs off of Arizona All-American pitcher Jennie Finch...Hit two solo home runs off of Finch March 24...Was named SBC Player of the Week after performance at Arizona...Leads Louisiana-Lafayette with a .413 batting average...Led the team in runs scored (58), doubles (23), total bases (151), slugging percentage (.766), hit by pitch (17), on-base percentage (.515) and assists (150)...Set the school single-season mark for total bases with 151...Her 14 home runs are second on the team and make her one of four Lady Cajuns with double-digit home runs...Hit game-winning solo shot in top of the seventh against Houston Feb. 22 at the Louisiana Classics...Hit 23 doubles this season, six shy of the NCAA single season record and one shy of the UL Lafayette record held by Kelli Bruce (1998)...Her 14 home runs in a season are third only to Alana Addison’s 16 in 2001 and this season...Her .766 slugging percentage this season set a new single-season school record...For the week of April 15-21, McMurtry was 13-for-22 (.591 batting average) with 10 runs scored, seven doubles, three home runs and 12 RBIs...Hit five doubles in four-game series with New Mexico State, April 20-21...Her double against Middle Tennessee in game two April 13, began a streak of 10 straight games with at least one double...Is seventh in the NCAA for doubles per game...Has 20 multi-hit games and team-best 15 multi-RBI games...Her single to shallow right field in last week’s SBC Tournament championship game was the game-winning RBI...Had a team-best 15-game hitting streak, April 6-24...Streak ended in April 27 game one against Florida International...Has hit safely in all but 12 games...Her 76 hits are fifth all-time for a single-season at UL Lafayette...Needs 12 more hits to set the record and surpass Tiffany Clark’s 87 hits in 1999....With her two singles in last week’s SBC Tournament championship game, she set the single-season school record for total bases in a single-season with 146, breaking Tiffany Clark’s record of 145 set in 1999...Went 8-for-18 week of April 22-28...Was 5-for-12 with four RBIs in four-game sweep of FIU...Was named the SBC Player of the Week April 29.
Pre-Louisiana-Lafayette: Was NFCA All-American at Illinois State in 2001 after hitting .354 with six home runs and 29 RBIs...Led Redbirds to NCAA Regional berth and also paced squad in seven offensive categories...Hit .397 with 19 runs scored in Missouri Valley Conference play and was MVC Tournament MVP...Hit .277 with 22 RBIs and 11 doubles as a freshman.
High School: Hit .427 during senior season at North Platte Senior High...Was Super State selection during final two years...Three-time All-State pick...Was valedictorian of class and was also senior class president...Member of National Honor Society and Student Council.
Personal: Born March 4, 1981…Daughter of Jim and Sally McMurtry...Has two brothers...Elementary education major wants to teach kindergarten...Brother, Danny, is pitcher for the Ragin’ Cajuns’ baseball team.
