Cajuns host Charles Lancon Memorial

April 15, 2005

LAFAYETTE- Saturday the University of Louisiana at Lafayette will host the Charles Lancon Memorial Relays.

The relays will be in honor of the former coach at Louisiana-Lafayette. Lancon served as head coach for the Cajuns for 13 years. In that time span, he garnered 14 'Coach of the Year' awards in the Sun Belt Conference. He led the Cajuns to 17 conference titles.

Field events will begin at 11 a.m. and track events will start at 1 p.m.

“There's a lot of guys who haven't run in four weeks,” head coach Lance Veazey said. “We just need to get out there and compete. This will give everyone an opportunity to compete in events they don't usually get to.”

The Cajuns haven't been in action since the Texas Relays on April 6.

Most of the field will consists of unattached runner from various schools. The only teams submitting rosters will be Louisiana-Lafayette and Louisiana State.

The event will be free to the public.
