LAFAYETTE – Sparked by the offensive performance of seniors Brad Boyd and Laurie Bridges who together combined for 49 points, Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns men's basketball team opened its exhibition season with a 94-69 victory over Delta State Thursday night at the Cajundome.

Boyd led all players with 27 points as he connected on 8-of-14 three-point attempts. The Opelousas native had six first-half three-pointers including two during a 16-0 run to end the first half that gave the Cajuns a double-digit lead for good.

Bridges posted the game's lone double-double garnering 22 points on 5-of-11 shooting and while grabbing 10 rebounds (five offensive, five defensive). The New Orleans native also made 11-of-13 free throws.

Brian Hamilton and Antoine Landry scored 14 and 11 points respectively as the Cajuns placed four players in double-digits.

DSU got a team-best 22 points from Will Watson and received 16 points off the bench from Ray Britt.

The Cajuns used the 16-0 run to end the first half and turn a two-point, 33-31 lead into a 49-31 halftime advantage.

A Chris Cameron layup off a feed from Laurie Bridges at 4:55 jumpstarted the Cajuns roll. Baskets from Antoine Landry and Bridges on the next two possessions increased the UL Lafayette lead to 39-31 with 3:44 remaining in the half.

That was followed by back-to-back three-pointers from Boyd as the Cajuns increased their lead to 14 points at the 2:44 mark. The three-point tallies brought Boyd's first-half total to six as he had 18 points at the break.

Aided by the three-point shot the Cajuns used an 11-2 run to break open an early 3-3 tie at 19:25. A three-pointer by Antoine Landry broke the tie and put UL Lafayette on top 6-3 - a lead they would not relinquish.

The Cajuns advantage was 29-16 at the 11:12 mark of the first half. A 10-0 run by DSU would trim that lead to 29-26 – the closest that the Statesmen would get the rest of the game.

The Cajuns continued to build their lead in the second half with the margin swelling to as many as 31 points.

A Boyd three-point basket from 22 feet out on the left side of the key at the 13:11 mark of the second half gave Louisiana-Lafayette a 66-44 lead. The lead remained above 20 points for the continuation of the second half.

An 11-3 run which began midway through the second half helped produced the Cajuns largest lead of 86-55 with 5:08 left.

With UL Lafayette on top 75-52, Adam James began the run with a 10-foot jumper as he was fouled. James missed the free throw but the rebound was kicked out to Boyd who drilled a three-point basket to bring the Cajuns lead to 80-52.

James would then make two free throws with 6:54 remaining in the game to get the lead to 30 points for the first time at 82-52. DSU ended a 7-0 run with a three-pointer from Trey Sanders.

Back-to-back inside baskets from James and Ross Mouton put the Cajuns out in front 86-55 as UL Lafayette enjoyed its largest lead of the night.

UL Lafayette will wrap up its exhibition season next Thursday with a 7:05 p.m. game against the Arkansas Angels. That will be the Cajuns final tuneup before opening the season on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at Georgia Tech in the Preseason NIT.
