The Cajuns opened the second half with a 10-5 run on a pair of baskets apiece from Ashley Blanche and Nakita Scott, and a lay-up from Trina Johnson, to increase their lead to 42-33.
Trailing 46-38, the Lady Hawks used fierce rebounding to mount a comeback. UMES trimmed their deficit to one, 48-47, with 5:50 left in the game.
A free throw from LaToshia Bailey 35 seconds later tied the game at 48-48 with 5:15 left in regulation.

The Lady Hawks lead moved to 52-50 on a free throw by Bailey, but a Blanche free throw trimmed the deficit back to one.

Bernette Tolston hit a three-pointer, but Goodwin grabbed the Lady Hawks' twenty-fourth offensive board and scored on a lay-up to give UMES a 58-54 lead with 28 seconds remaining.

Winkfield was fouled with 6.9 seconds on the clock and hit both free throws.

Winkfield led all players with 16 points and 14 rebounds.

Anna Petrakova scored just five points, none in the second half, but contributed with 10 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals.
After UMES took a 5-0 lead, the Cajuns evened the game. A short put-back by Scott and a three-pointer from Morgan Mayon tied the score.
The Lady Hawks responded with another 5-0 spurt to take a 10-5 lead. The Cajuns fought back with an 11-2 outburst to take a 16-12 lead. Two three-point buckets from Tolston and one from Petrakova along with a basket from Blanche accounted for the run.
The Hawks pulled within one, 20-19, thanks to four points from Bailey.
The Cajuns followed with an 8-0 run to take a 28-19 lead with 5:50 to play in the first half.
From there, UL Lafayette would not score from the field the rest of the half, allowing UMES to climb back into the game. The Lady Hawks used a 9-1 run to close within 29-28, but three from the stripe by Johnson in the half's final minute gave the Cajuns a four-point lead.
