Louisiana alumnus Kelly (Brown) LaMaison begins her sixth season as an assistant coach on the Ragin' Cajuns track and field staff after returning to her alma mater in 2011.
In her tenure at Louisiana, handles the Ragin' Cajuns cross country team and distance runners, and has helped produce some of the top young runners in the state of Louisiana. She has coached a pair of All-Sun Belt Conference runners along with three runners (Logan Pearce, Anna Katherine Devitt, Claire Hodges) being named the state's Cross Country Freshman of the Year by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
LaMaison has also coached some of the top middle distance and distance runners in Ragin' Cajuns, highlighted by school-record holders Petrona Layne (1,500 meters), Kelci Lyons (indoor and outdoor 800 meters), Danielle Castaldi (mile-run), Beau Robinson (5,000 meters) and Ashley Irwin (10,000 meters). During the 2014 cross country season, Devitt was named the LSWA Female Runner of the Year with Matthew Rice earning All-LSWA honors on the men's side.
A former letterwinner for the Ragin' Cajuns, LaMaison competed for four years, running with the cross country and track and field teams from 1998-02. She served as a team co-captain in 2001 and 2002.
Before her return to the Ragin' Cajuns, LaMaison spent four years as the track and field assistant and head cross country coach at Lafayette High School. In her tenure at LHS, she revamped a struggling Lions cross country program, with the men’s and women’s team ranked top-4 and top-6 in the state of Louisiana, respectively.
Her accomplishments garnered her multiple honors, including three-time District 3-5A Cross Country Coach of the Year honors from 2007-09. She was also recognized as the All-Acadiana Cross Country Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2009.
Prior to her time at LHS, LaMaison served as the track and field coach at Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau. In her time, she was named district coach of the year and All-Acadiana coach of the year in 2006-07
Brown-LaMaison was elected Vice President of the LATFCA and served as the Race Director for the Thru the Jungle & Monster Dash 5K. She is a United States Track and Field Association Level 2 Coach for endurance, sprints, hurdles and relays.
She received her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology before returning to UL to earn a certificate in physical education. Later, she returned to UL to pursue her teaching certificate in secondary education.
Brown-LaMaison is the mother of three sons, Landon, Jaxon, and Chase, and a daughter, Kennedy.
