Louisiana Finishes Opening Weekend with More Power Swings

Ragin’ Cajuns tack six more home runs bringing the season total to double digits
Â
The three home runs hit against North Texas generated eight RBI for the Ragin' Cajuns in their 10-5 victory over the Mean Green.
Â
Lily Knox (2-for-3, double, HR, 4 RBI), the walk-off hero on Friday night, delivered a three-run home run in the third inning to provide Louisiana with a 4-2 lead, and it held.
Â
Brooke Otto (2-for-3, double, HR, 2 RBI) twice answered Mean Green tallies to preserve the lead. She hit a leadoff home run in the bottom of the fourth after UNT moved within 4-3 and in the fifth inning delivered an RBI double after the visitors sliced the lead to 6-5.
Â
From there, Sage Hoover (3.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 4 K) and Bailey Mackles shut down the Mean Green (0-4) by retiring the final six UNT hitters that went to the plate.
Â
The Ragin' Cajuns (3-1) fell 9-7 to Jacksonville State in the nightcap as they were unable to maintain the momentum gained in the first inning from home runs by Kennedy Marceaux (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) and Haley Hart (2-for-3, HR, RBI).
Â
Marceaux and Hart's round trippers opened a 3-1 advantage but the Gamecocks (3-1) promptly evened the score in the top of the second inning netting a pair of runs by taking advantage of a Cajuns defensive miscue.
Â
Otto drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the third to allow UL to break the tie, albeit momentarily as JSU forged a 4-all tie three batters into the fourth inning on an Emma Elrod RBI double.
Â
A passed ball which took a force play away from the Cajuns in the fifth inning led to two runs for the Gamecocks and the lead was extended to 8-4 in the sixth inning on a two-run homer from Maddie Mayo.
Â
Louisiana didn't go away quietly as Madyson Manning's three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh trimmed the jSU lead down to the final margin.
Â
The Ragin' Cajuns finished with 10 home runs in their season-opening weekend debut. Six different players posted at least one home run with Hart, Knox, Marceaux and Emily Smith each producing a pair.
Â
The UNT win was a third straight to kick off the season, marking the first 3-0 start since 2024.
