Louisiana dominates Kennesaw State before Saint Mary’s answers late at Davis Diamond
Louisiana (14-7) flexed its offensive depth against Kennesaw State (4-12), scoring in five different innings and capitalizing on aggressive baserunning and timely hitting.
The Ragin' Cajuns struck first in the opening frame when Madyson Manning roped an RBI double to center and Brooke Otto followed with a run-scoring fielder's choice for a quick 2-0 lead. Louisiana added another run in the second on Manning's RBI walk before breaking the game open with four runs in the third.
Emily Smith delivered the decisive swing in the third, lining a two-run single to center that pushed the lead to 5-0. A sacrifice bunt from Dayzja Williams and a wild pitch plated two more, stretching the margin to 7-0.
After Kennesaw State pushed across three runs in the fourth, the Cajuns regained their comfortable margin.
In the sixth, Erin Ardoin's RBI single, Mia Norwood's sacrifice fly and Mia Liscano's run-scoring single stretched the lead to 10-3. Louisiana advanced the lead into double figures in the seventh when Lily Knox delivered a two-run single as part of a four-run inning.
Lexie Delbrey (3-1) earned the win, allowing three runs – one earned – over six innings.
In the second half of the day's doubleheader, Saint Mary's capitalized on timely power to gain a measure of revenge in the rematch with Louisiana.
Braxton Brown opened the scoring with a solo home run in the second. After Kennedy Marceaux answered with a solo shot to left in the fourth to pull the Ragin' Cajuns even at 1-1, the Gaels responded with three runs in the bottom half. Brown's RBI double and Taylor Lane's two-run single provided the decisive swing.
Louisiana added a run in the sixth on Smith's RBI groundout, trimming the deficit to 4-2, but Lane's solo home run in the bottom of the inning restored a three-run margin.
Sage Hoover (3-3) yielded just three hits in her three innings of work, but the Gaels made the most of their opportunities gaining four runs during her time in the circle. Saint Mary's starting pitcher Odhi Vasquez kept the Cajuns off-balance throughout, scattering five hits and striking out six.
