Seminoles take advantage of extended innings, slow Ragin’ Cajuns offense down
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – No. 7-ranked Florida State capitalized on free passes in the second inning and it proved to be the difference as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball team fell 8-0 (5 inn.) on Tuesday, February 17 at JoAnne Graf Field in Tallahassee, Florida.
Louisiana (6-4) matched Florida State through the first inning as starting pitcher Lexie Delbrey (1.1 IP, 1 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 5 BB) worked out of an early bases-loaded situation.
Florida State (9-2) broke through in the second inning, though, taking advantage of five free passes in the inning – a hit by pitch, error and three walks – to plate five runs despite recording only one hit.
A misplayed grounder, bases-loaded walk and grounder to shortstop added a run each before a two-run single from Anna Hinde stretched the lead to 5-0 as the Seminoles took advantage of the free passes to create separation.
Louisiana regrouped in the circle as Sage Hoover (3.1 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K) brought the second to a close and held the Seminoles scoreless over the next two frames. She finished with 3-1/3 innings of relief, scattering four hits as the Ragin' Cajuns pitchers combined to hold FSU to just five hits overall.
The Ragin' Cajuns offense was held in check, limited to four hits and unable to successfully advance a runner past second base which prevented an opportunity to chip away while Hoover held FSU scoreless over the third and fourth innings.
Florida State added three runs in the fifth to end the game under the run rule. A leadoff single and a walk set the table before a wild pitch brought in a run. Angelee Bueno's sacrifice fly and an RBI single from Bella Ruggiero followed to push the margin to eight.
Freshman Haley Hart led the Ragin' Cajuns at the plate with a perfect 2-for-2 performance, marking her fourth multiple-hit game of the young season and pushing her season average above .500 (15-of-29). Mia Norwood and Mia Liscano each added a hit as Louisiana continued to generate traffic despite limited chances.
Bella Dimitrijevic earned the win for the Seminoles, allowing three hits over 3-2/3 scoreless innings with one walk and two strikeouts. Ashtyn Danley tossed the final 1-1/3 innings to complete the shutout.
Tuesday's contest was the first road game of the 2026 season for Louisiana. It was also the first of seven games away from home throughout the current week for the Ragin' Cajuns.
FSU extended its series win streak four games dating back to the last time last time UL visited Tallahassee back in April 2018.
