Louisiana Collects Ranked Win on Day 2 of Ragin’ Cajuns Invitational

Five-run deficit erased in walk-off takedown of No. 21 Ole Miss to start the day
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball team stormed back for an 8-5 walk-off win over No. 21 Ole Miss on Saturday, February 14 in the Ragin' Cajuns Invitational at Lamson Park before settling for a split after dropping the nightcap to Prairie View.
The Ragin' Cajuns (5-3) scored in each of the final five innings to overcome an early 5-0 deficit to Ole Miss (6-4), capped off by a three-run home run from Brooke Otto (2-for-3, double, HR, 3 RBI) that broke a deadlock in the seventh inning.
Louisiana's pitching settled in to allow time for the rally, holding the Rebels scoreless over the final five innings. Starting pitcher Julianne Tipton (5.0 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 5 K) closed her time in the circle with three straight scoreless innings and Sage Hoover (2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R) closed with two scoreless frames of her own.
RBI singles from Kennedy Marceaux (2-for-3, 2 RBI) and Lily Knox (2-for-3, 2 RBI) in the third inning began the Ragin' Cajuns process of chipping away at the Ole Miss lead, trimming the deficit to 5-2.
Tipton kept momentum on UL's side this time around with the Rebels, throwing up a zero on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth.
Marceaux and Knox delivered RBI in the fourth and fifth inning, respectively, slicing the Rebels' lead to 5-4 after five complete. Then in the sixth inning the equalizer came when pinch runner Miki Watts was able to score after a play at third with the bases loaded took off the force play at home.
Hoover worked around a leadoff single in the top of the seventh, getting a line out and pop up after a sac bunt placed a runner in scoring position, then Knox and Cecilia Vasquez singled ahead of Otto's walk-off heroics.
The Ragin' Cajuns avenged a 5-2 loss to Ole Miss on Friday and for the second straight season gained a split with the Rebels in the Ragin' Cajuns Invitational.
Louisiana was unable to complete a Saturday sweep as Prairie View took advantage of eight walks that Cajuns pitching issued and snuck out a 6-5 win.
The Panthers (3-4) drew four walks alone in the second inning and it led to three runs that gave the visitors an early lead.
Bailey Mackles (4.1 IP, 4 H, 6 R, 7 BB, 7 K) responded with back-to-back scoreless frames after a Haley Hart RBI single in the bottom of the second put UL on the board, then in the bottom of the fourth a pair of Prairie View miscues set up Mia Liscano's RBI single that provided a 4-3 lead.
Prairie View gained two base runners via walk in the fifth inning setting the stage for Mia Nunez's RBI single and Ashlee Elizarraras' two-run double that returned the lead back to the Panthers for good.
Lexie Delbrey (2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K) kept the deficit at 6-4 heading to the bottom of the seventh. The Cajuns got a run on an infield single from Dayzja Williams and then loaded the bases before Panthers reliever Yazmyn Stewart induced a foul out from Otto down the left field line to prevent her from another heroic moment.
