Ragin’ Cajuns Generate Numbers in All Phases During Red and White Scrimmage

Louisiana returns to E.K. Long on Friday, August 29 for season opener
LAFAYETTE – Both sides averaged at or above 10 kills per set, hit .200-plus and combined for 40-plus digs and 13 blocks during the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball team's annual Red and White scrimmage held on Saturday, August 23 at Earl K. Long Gym.
Jazmine Gaston (White) with 13 kills and Cailin Demps (Red) with 10 kills led the offensive efforts. Demps registered seven kills on her nine swings in the opening set to help Red outlast White 25-22.
Team Red threw up five of its eight blocks in Set 2 to lock up the win (25-17) which landed the match decision. Marlee Ervin, Chelsea Gilmore and Lindsey Henry each finished the contest with four blocks.
Team White scored nine kills off of 13 swings to hit .538 in the shortened third set and took a 15-13 win. Gaston fired off five kills in the final frame to leap into the overall match lead in kills.
Setter Nene Hawkins handed out 24 assists in guiding Team Red to 34 kills on a .314 percentage. Fellow junior transfer setter Ryleigh Garis directed Team White to 29 kills on .235 hitting with her 15 assists
Brooklyn Vigil (7 digs) and Kennedy Gustafson (6 digs) paved the way for Team White's match-best 23 digs. Sophia Armstrong's eight digs topped six with multiple scoops amongst Team Red's 21 digs.
LOOKING AHEAD
Louisiana officially starts the 2025 season from Friday-Sunday, August 29-31 inside E. K. Long Gym hosting the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic. The season opener occurs at 6:00 p.m. on August 29 vs. Texas Southern.
