Scott was honored among eight nominees based on leadership, scholarship, and service

LAFAYETTE - Caemon Scott was honored as the University of Louisiana's overall Outstanding Graduate and will be recognized Friday and Saturday during Spring 2025 Commencement ceremonies. Scott is the first student-athlete to earn the prestigious award since former softball player Ashley Brignac in the fall of 2011.

Each spring and fall semester, deans from the University's academic colleges nominate a student as Outstanding Graduate. Nominations are based on leadership, scholarship, and service. An Alumni Association committee interviews candidates and selects one to receive the overall award.

In addition to being the spring semester's overall honoree, Scott is the Outstanding Graduate for the College of Liberal Arts. A strategic communication major, his GPA is 3.68.

A member of the track and field team, Scott had a strong 2024 campaign for the Cajuns. He was named to the NCAA Academic All-District Team and the Sun Belt Conference's Commissioner's List for academic excellence. Scott helped the Cajuns capture the 2025 Sun Belt Conference Indoor title, their first since 1996. Scott was the third leg of the championship-clinching and first-place finishing 4x400m relay team while placing second in the 400m as an individual.

At the outdoor championships, Scott took home two more golds. Scott ran on the Cajun 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay squads that finished in first place in the conference, as Louisiana finished third as a team for the third straight season.

Scott represents the Sun Belt on the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He also serves on the NCAA Board of Governors Student-Athlete Experience Committee. He was president of the University's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

He will fulfill his final year of NCAA track eligibility before attending law school. His parents are Anitra Ford-Scott and Craig Scott of Lafayette.
