SB Sam Ryan Congratulated by Alyson Habetz vs. LA Tech 04.02.25

Louisiana Blanks LA Tech in Midweek Action

Sam Ryan twirls three-hit shutout and Mia Liscano keys offensive production

LAFAYETTE – With timely hitting and a commanding pitching performance from Sam Ryan the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball team picked up a 3-0 win over Louisiana Tech in a midweek game at Lamson Park on Wednesday, April 2.

Ryan (7.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K) was in control from the start as she crafted her first shutout as a Ragin' Cajun. She would face only two over the minimum over the first five innings, cementing her hold on the Bulldogs (21-14) by retiring the side in order for three straight innings from the third through the fifth.

Mia Liscano (2-for-3, triple, RBI) was the timely bat for Louisiana (18-17) to find the runs necessary to support Ryan's masterpiece.

A one-out single from Liscano in the third inning moved Erin Ardoin (leadoff walk) into scoring position at third base. Emily Smith promptly delivered a sacrifice fly two pitches later and the Ragin' Cajuns grabbed a 1-0 lead.

Ryan continued to sit the Bulldogs down in order to protect the lead, then her offense picked her up in the bottom of the fifth inning – no coincidence when it was time for Liscano to step to the plate.

Maddie Hayden beat the throw for an infield single ahead of Liscano's trip to the plate in the fifth. After working the count full, Liscano ripped a triple into the right field corner to plate Hayden making it 2-0.

Sam Roe assured Ryan of an additional run to work with as she delivered a two-out RBI single to provide UL a 3-0 advantage after five complete.

Louisiana Tech tested the shutout with base hits in the sixth and seventh. Both times the Cajuns infield defense cut runners off the base path at second base highlighted by a game-ending 6-4-3 double play in the seventh inning.

Louisiana captured its first midweek win of the season and pulled its record back above the .500 mark.

The Ragin' Cajuns extended their winning streak over the Bulldogs at Lamson Park to 19 straight games. UL has defeated LA Tech each matchup on its home field dating back to April 1997.

Ryan delivered the Cajuns pitching staff's third shutout of the season, this one the first at Lamson Park. She improved to 4-1 and lowered her ERA to 1.21 on Louisiana's home field.

Smith took over the team lead with her 30th RBI of her collegiate rookie season coming on the third inning sacrifice fly.

Liscano, coming off a week where she batted .500 (6-of-12), continued her recent hot streak her two-hit showing marking her sixth multiple hit overall and third in the past four games. She extend her season-best hitting streak to five games.

Hayden (7 games), Roe (5 games) and Credeur (5 games) also extended lengthy hitting streaks. Roe stretched her season-best reached base streak to 12 games.

Louisiana remained undefeated, now at 11-0, when limiting foes to two runs or less.
