Russell and Jacobs Earn SBC Track Athlete of the Week Honors

Russell set a school record while Jacobs posted two of the top times in the SBC over the weekend
LAFAYETTEÂ - Isabelle Russell and Lawson Jacobs earned Sun Belt Conference Track Athlete of the Week honors after their performances over the weekend, the league announced on Wednesday.
Russell once again lowered the program record in the 5000m, clocking in at 16:43.69. The sophomore holds the best time in the conference by nearly four seconds, with the SBC Championships less than a month away. She also ran the 800 at the Carl Kight Lumberjack Invitational, where she had a personal best time of 2:16.19.
One of the top freshmen in the country, Jacobs ran a 45.91 in the 400m, his first time running the event since the SBC Indoor Championships. That time is the second-fastest in school history, the fastest in the SBC this year, and the seventh-fastest in the East Region this season. The freshman also ran the final leg of Louisiana's 4x400m relay team that took the top spot at the Crimson Tide Invitational at 3:07.24, which is also the best time this season in the league.
The Ragin' Cajuns return to competition next Saturday at the LSU Alumni Gold in their final meet before the SBC Outdoor Championships in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
