Louisiana rallies twice against Houston then puts away Kansas City early
Laney Credeur's clutch two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh allowed Louisiana (8-4) to walk off Houston (9-4) in an 8-7 triumph – the team's second rally of the contest after earlier erasing a 6-3 deficit in the fourth inning.
Credeur's heroics capped off a seven-hit, five-RBI punch from the heart of the order which set the tone early when Emily Smith and Cecilia Vasquez went back-to-back for home runs in the first inning.
After UH put up a five-spot in the top of the fourth to leap in front 6-3, it was Smith singling to set up an RBI single by Vasquez and Credeur following with a walk to load the bases which placed two runners in a position to cross on a Sam Roe grounder and even the score at 6-all.
Bethaney Noble (3.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 7 K) would be undeterred by a Cougars leadoff homer in the fifth, striking out five batters the rest of the way to keep her team within a run heading into the final at bat.
Smith (3-for-4, HR, RBI), Vasquez (2-for-4, HR, 3 RBI) and Credeur (2-for-2, double, RBI) each delivered multiple-hit games from the Nos. 3-5 slots in the lineup. Kayla Falterman (2-for-4, RBI) and Mia Liscano (2-for-3) made it five Cajuns with multiple hits as the team produced 13 total hits.
Vasquez, who generated RBI for the eighth time in 11 games, picked up her team-leading fifth multiple-RBI effort and increased her season total to 15 RBI.
In the nightcap, it was Emily Smith's second home run of the day giving UL a 3-0 lead three batters into the game en route to the 9-2 win over Kansas City.
The Ragin' Cajuns completed their runs total by the third inning, Maddie Hayden driving in a run and later scoring herself during the second inning to up the edge to 5-0, then a leadoff home run by Roe in the third inning sparking a four-run frame after the Roos had sliced two runs off the lead.
Sam Ryan (6.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 4 K) closed with three straight scoreless innings, facing just two over the minimum, to wrap up her team-high tying third win of the young season.
Smith finished with game-high four RBI, the most tallied by a Cajun on the season. She increased her season RBI total to 13, joining Vasquez in double figures.
Eight different players contributed a base hit for Louisiana which brought its total for the day to 21 hits. Hayden's RBI single in the second extended her hitting streak to eight games.
