The Ragin’ Cajuns improved to 2-1 on the young season
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana women's tennis team earned a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Stephen F. Austin on Sunday at Cajun Courts. The Ragin' Cajuns trailed 3-2 but won the final two matches to clinch their second win of the season.
The freshman duo of Rocio Navarro and Ivana Castillo got the day going with a 6-1 doubles win. After SFA won on court one, Nina Krecklenberg and Kamea Medora hung on for a 6-4 win to take the doubles point.
SFA would go on to win the first two matches in singles before Angelique Berrat bounced back after dropping the first set to win 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. Trailing the match 3-2, Navarro came away with a 7-5, 7-5 win on court five, making court six a winner-take-all match. Castillo dropped a tight first set in a tiebreaker but cruised in the second set to even the score. She fell behind the decisive third set 2-0 but finished strong by winning six of the final seven games to take the match, 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 6-3.
