WBB Imani Daniel Goes Up for Layup vs. Mississippi College 10.28.25

Ragin’ Cajuns Power Through to a Second Exhibition Victory

Highly touted freshman trio carries Louisiana past Mississippi College

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Basketball team wrapped up its preseason schedule earning a second exhibition victory, capturing a 78-67 win over Mississippi College on Tuesday, October 28 at the Cajundome.

Freshman Imani Daniel (Gramercy, La./John Curtis Christian) scored a game-high tying 22 points converting 6-of-9 field goals and shooting 10-of-12 at the free throw line. She was joined in double figures by fellow freshmen Amijah Price (12 points) and Arionna Patterson (10 points).

The Ragin' Cajuns flipped the game upside down on the Choctaws in the second quarter, producing a 21-8 run over the 10-minute span to overcome a 22-16 deficit.

Louisiana used the free throw line to its advantage, sinking double digits each half on the way to making 25 total. The Ragin' Cajuns also enjoyed a healthy 37 points off of Mississippi College turnovers.

The Ragin' Cajuns bench scored 57 of the team's total 78 points – the bulk production of the huge lift led by the freshman trio (Daniel, Price and Patterson).

Daniel's performance marked a strong follow up to a 19-point, 15-rebound double-double vs. LSU-Alexandria on October 23. The collegiate rookie closed the preseason with a team-leading 41 points scored.

Mississippi College used the three-point shot to stay within striking distance. The Choctaws recorded 10 triples while the Ragin' Cajuns only attempted four in the contest.

Louisiana scored double digits all four quarters for the second time in its preseason tune-ups and generated a pair of 20-plus quarters to make it six in the exhibition season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Choctaws raced out to a 15-10 lead a mere five minutes in prompting a Cajuns timeout.
  • Four free throws from Imani Daniel cut the deficit to one, but Mississippi College closed the first quarter with a 7-2 run to stretch the lead back out (22-16).
  • A 7-0 run from UL early in the second quarter made it a one-possession game at 24-23 by the five-minute mark.
  • The Cajuns defense then held the Choctaws scoreless for a four-minute stretch during a 12-0 run which erased the deficit for good and opened a 35-28 advantage.
  • Starting with a swipe and steal at 6:06 of the third quarter, Amijah Price began and later ended an 8-0 scoring run that led to increased separation (49-38).
  • Mississippi College used a 13-0 run that spilt over into the fourth quarter to even the score at 53-all with 7:35 left to play.
  • Imani Daniel's inside bucket moments later at 7:10 put the Cajuns back in the lead to stay. The score jumpstarted at 12-0 run that had UL ahead 65-53 inside of five minutes to play.
