Maggard, University agree to extension through June 30, 2029
LAFAYETTE – The University of Louisiana and Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Bryan Maggard agreed to a contract extension through June 30, 2029, it was announced Tuesday.
Â
Maggard, who joined the Ragin' Cajuns in 2017, has brought unprecedented success to the department since his arrival from the University of Missouri. During Maggard's tenure, the Ragin' Cajuns have excelled on the playing field, classroom and in the community.
Â
Maggard has guided Louisiana through the ever-changing landscape in college athletics that has included new multi-media rights and TV contracts, conference realignment, and the implementation of Name, Image, and Likeness procedures.
Â
"It is an absolute honor to serve as the Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics at the University of Louisiana and I am grateful for the confidence President (Joseph) Savoie continues to show in me," Maggard said. "Both Kerry and I consider southern Louisiana home and although we have made great progress since 2017, we have so much more to accomplish for UL Athletics these next five years."
Â
Louisiana has won a total of 21 Sun Belt Conference, bowl game and NCAA Regional championships in men's and women's basketball, football, baseball, softball and golf while earning a football bowl bid for a school record six consecutive years.
Â
In November 2023, Maggard and University leadership announced the $65 million Our Lady of Lourdes Stadium project, turning Cajun Field in to one of the premier college football venues. The project is scheduled to be completed for the 2025 football season.
Â
Two of the largest gifts ever received by Louisiana Athletics came under Maggard's leadership as the Ragin' Cajuns Athletic Foundation has raised over $35 million for the project.
Â
Community service has been a mainstay in the department since Maggard's arrival as Louisiana has topped the Sun Belt in community service hours four years in a row and had the second-most community service hours nationally in 2023-24 with three teams (golf, volleyball and women's tennis) leading their respective sports.
Â
Under the direction of Maggard, the Athletics Department launched an in-house ticket operation and partnered with industry leader Paciolan to provide an enhanced ticketing experience for future events.
