Louisiana Places 11 Players on Phil Steele Preseason All-SBC team

Cajuns ranked No. 40 among FBS schools in preseason rankings by publication
LAFAYETTE – Paced by first-team selections AJ Gillie and K.C. Ossai, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns had 11 players named to the 2024 Phil Steele Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Team, the publication announced.

Gillie earned first-team honors at offensive guard for Louisiana with Ossai named as one of four linebackers on the first team.

The duo was joined by second-team selections Zylan Perry (kick returner) and Cameron Whitfield (linebacker), third-team picks Dre'lyn Washington (running back), Jordan Lawson (defensive end), Kenneth Almendares (kicker) and Jacob Bernard (punt returner).

Named to the fourth team were wide receiver Harvey Broussard, offensive tackle George Jackson and defensive back Courtline Flowers.

In the publication's national preseason ratings, Louisiana was tabbed at No. 40 among FBS schools with a pair of 2024 SBC opponents – Texas State (No. 36) and App State (No. 38) – ranked above.

The publication rated the Ragin' Cajuns offensive line and special teams' units No. 1 among SBC schools.

Louisiana will open its 2024 season on August 31 at Cajun Field when it plays host to in-state opponent Grambling in the annual Herbert Heymann Classic.
