DeBarge, Langevin Earn NCBWA All-America Honors

Duo led Louisiana to Sun Belt title, third consecutive NCAA Regional appearance
DALLAS – Louisiana's Kyle DeBarge and LP Langevin added to their postseason baseball accolades as the 2024 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's 24th All-America first, second and third teams were announced on Wednesday.
Â
DeBarge was selected by a national panel of NCBWA members as the first-team shortstop with Langevin earning third-team honors as a relief pitcher.
Â
DeBarge, the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, hit .355 on the season while setting school-records in both home runs (21) and total bases (179). The junior shortstop drove in 72 runs – the most by a Ragin' Cajun since Greg Blevins (75) in 1990 – while starting in all 62 games for Louisiana.
Â
"Kyle is a game changer, he's a program changer," Louisiana head coach Matt Deggs said. "Anywhere he's been, just look at the records ... the wins and losses, the championships. He's a great teammate. He's a great leader. He's just one of the more dynamic players I've ever had.
Â
"He has the innate ability to will himself to success. And when you combine that with the God given tools and makeup that he has. He has the ability to change a game, change a season and change a program."
Â
Rated as the No. 1 shortstop nationally by D1Baseball, DeBarge finished second in the Sun Belt Conference in slugging percentage (.699), OPS (1.117), home runs (21), hits (91) and at-bats (256).
Â
DeBarge, who joined Jace Conrad (2014) and Blake Trahan (2015) in earning SBC Player of the Year honors, belted 13 homers and drove in 45 RBI in SBC games while becoming the first player in school history to break the 20-home run mark.
Â
Langevin posted a 6-1 record on the mound in his first season in a Louisiana uniform while leading the team with seven saves. The right-hander posted a 3.73 ERA in 23 appearances on the mound and struck out 106 batters in 62.2 innings of work.
Â
"LP was a great sign by (former assistant coach) Jake Wells and (pitching coach) Gunner (Leger) did a tremendous job with him," Deggs said. "Coming in, we knew we had a good arm ... we didn't know quite what we had. To see the progress that he made throughout the fall and spring. Then to realize we do have a stopper on the back end.
Â
"It was an incredible feeling to have that security. He's just getting started and I think he's going to pitch for a long time. It's an easy delivery. It disrupts the hitter and they have trouble finding his fastball. When the secondary stuff improves, which it will, he's going to pitch in the big leagues for a long time."
Â
The Quebec City, Quebec native became the school's sixth player to earn SBC Pitcher of the Year honors joining Scott Dohmann (2000), Austin Faught (2005), Hunter Moody (2006), Carson Baranik (2014), Gunner Leger (2017) and Colten Schmidt (2018).
Â
The No. 5 overall relief pitcher by D1Baseball. Langevin finished as the SBC leader in strikeouts, fewest hits allowed (40) and fewest runs allowed (27). Langevin was tied for third in saves among SBC pitchers, seventh in ERA and tied for ninth in wins.
