Louisiana Receives Assignment for Sun Belt Softball Championship

17th-ranked Ragin’ Cajuns travel to San Marcos, Texas for start of the program’s latest postseason journey

LAFAYETTE – No. 17 Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball is scheduled to begin play in the 2024 Sun Belt Conference Championship tournament on Thursday, May 9 at 10:00 a.m. at Bobcat Softball Stadium San Marcos, Texas.
 
Seeds and matchups for the 2024 Sun Belt Conference Softball Championship were announced Saturday evening following the conclusion of the regular season. 
 
The Sun Belt Conference Softball Championship will take place from Wednesday-Saturday, May 8-11 on the campus of Texas State in San Marcos, Texas with 10 teams competing in the single-elimination tournament.
 
Louisiana (40-16, 22-2 SBC), conference champions for the fifth consecutive year and 20th time in the 23 seasons of completed regular season play, earned the tournament's No. 1 seed and a bye from opening day action on Wednesday (May 8).
 
The Ragin' Cajuns opponent on Thursday (May 9) will be the winner of the Nos. 8-9 seed first round contest between James Madison (30-21, 12-12 SBC) and Southern Miss (22-28, 10-14 SBC).
 
The other half of Louisiana's bracket includes No. 4 seed Coastal Carolina (34-20, 14-10 SBC) and No. 5 seed Troy (33-21, 13-11 SBC).
 
UL concluded its championship regular season collecting its 89th consecutive conference series victory by overcoming a series deficit against Troy. The Ragin' Cajuns, now winners of 31 of the past 35 games since March 3, reached the 40-win mark for the 25th consecutive season. 
 
All nine tournament games will be nationally broadcast on ESPN+, concluding with the championship game at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11. Fans can also hear all of the Ragin' Cajuns contests on The Goat 103.3 FM and 1420 AM in the Acadiana region and worldwide on The Varsity Network.

Louisiana has claimed the SBC Championship title 18 times in the 23-year history of the event, and travels to San Marcos seeking to claim a fifth consecutive championship and defend its most recent titles claimed in San Marcos (Texas) in 2019, Troy (Alabama) in 2021, Mobile (Alabama) in 2022 and at Lamson Park in 2023.

The Ragin' Cajuns sport an all-time record of 72-9 (.889) in the SBC Championship and have an active 14-game win streak in the event. Louisiana claimed the title the last time the event was held in San Marcos in 2019, beginning the current string of consecutive titles.
