Hart delivers game-winner as Louisiana erases 2-0 deficit in final two trips to the plate

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball team erased a two-run deficit over their final two at bats and walked it off for a 3-2 victory over Marshall on Friday, April 24 at Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park, securing their seventh walk-off win of the season.

With the come-from-behind victory, Louisiana (26-23, 9-10 SBC) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the three-game series with the Sun Belt-leading Thundering Herd (35-13, 15-4 SBC).

The Ragin' Cajuns extended their SBC win streak to four games dating back to last weekend's sweep of Coastal Carolina and picked up a sixth consecutive conference victory at Lamson Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0 entering the sixth inning, Louisiana broke through against Marshall starter Jules King after a near-miss with the bases loaded in the fifth inning.

Brooke Otto sparked the rally with a leadoff double, and Haley Hart followed with an RBI single to put the Ragin' Cajuns on the board. Two batters later, Mia Norwood delivered the big swing of the inning, ripping an RBI triple down the right-field line to tie the game at 2-2.

With momentum in hand, Louisiana completed the comeback in the bottom of the seventh.

Kennedy Marceaux delivered a one-out double, and Mia Liscano reached on an infield single to put runners on the corners. After Liscano stole second, Hart came through again, lining a single to center field to score Marceaux and seal the walk-off win.

Marshall grabbed an early lead in the first inning, scoring on a passed ball, and added to it in the fourth on Bella Gerlach's solo home run to left-center field. However, the Thundering Herd were held scoreless over the final three frames as Louisiana mounted its comeback.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Hart paced the Cajuns offensively, finishing 2-for-4 with two RBI, highlighted by the game-winning hit. Norwood added a perfect 3-for-3 performance with an RBI, while Louisiana totaled nine hits on the night.

Marceaux increased her conference-play hitting streak to 14 games with the double that jumpstarted the seventh-inning strike while Liscano made it 18 straight SBC games reaching base after getting aboard immediately afterwards.

In the circle, Sage Hoover (10-9) delivered a steady outing, tossing a complete game and limiting Marshall to three hits and two runs — only one earned. After allowing a first-inning run and a solo home run in the fourth, Hoover settled in and retired nine of the final 10 batters she faced.

Gerlach provided Marshall's only extra-base hit and RBI while King delivered a strong start until the final two innings, where Louisiana went 6-for-10 at the plate and produced all three runs.
