LEADING OFF
>> No. 17 Louisiana puts the finishing touches on a SBC championship regular season, taking on Troy in the final conference series of 2024.
>> Louisiana clinched its fifth consecutive SBC regular season title (2019, 2021-24) – and the 20th overall in 23 seasons of completed play in league history – during last weekend's series sweep in Monroe.
>> UL is coming off a 5-0 week that was highlighted by a highly successful sweep of midweek play: defeating No. 7 LSU and McNeese.
>> The Ragin' Cajuns enter the Troy series on a 13-game home win streak at Lamson Park – the longest in-season home win streak since 2019.
>> It's the first time since 2006 (at Middle Tennessee) that Louisiana ends SBC play and the regular season against an opponent other than ULM.
>> On Thursday, the Cajuns will wear cleats designed (and inspired) by Emmy Quebedeaux of Lafayette to show support in her battle with cancer.
>> The Cajuns have won 88 consecutive SBC series dating back to 2013.
Â
A LOOK AT THE SERIES
Series Record:Â Louisiana leads, 48-7
Last: 4/23/23 – UL 6, TROY 1 (Troy, Ala.)
Streak: Louisiana, +2
- 18th Sun Belt series; Louisiana claimed the series win each of previous 17 occurrences.
- Since 2012, the Ragin' Cajuns have won 29 of the last 32 meetings in the series.
- UL holds a 25-2 edge over Troy at Lamson Park. Dating back to the 2015 series, the Ragin' Cajuns have won the last 11 matchups in the facility.
- Trojans halted Cajuns series-best, 10-game win streak in the series opener in Troy last season.
- Louisiana rallied to win games two and three of the 2023 series in Troy to keep the streak of consecutive SBC series won intact.
- The 2018 series in Troy was also key to the SBC series streak: UL winning an 11-inning marathon in game one and erasing a five-run deficit in game two of the series-opening doubleheader.
- Programs first met in DH at Lamson Park in April 1997, but not again until Troy joined SBC (2006).
Â
THIS 'N THAT
>> The Ragin' Cajuns, winners of 29 of their last 32 games since a 9-12 start, have moved within two wins of a 25th consecutive 40-win season.
>> UL ranks No. 1 in the nation in double plays turned. The 39 DPs are the most in the Glasco era, and highest since 2002 (when 25 were turned).
>> Last week, Louisiana captured three comeback wins and posted a pair of one-run wins (improved to 7-3 in one-run games).
>> The Cajuns defense is fielding .978 the past 31 games (28-3 record); the unit fielded .953 the first 22 games (10-12 record).
>> Sam Landry handled 20-1/3 innings during last week's 5-0 run, yielding just three earned runs, 11 hits and holding foes to a .162 average.
>> Sam Landry, owner of 59 career wins, leads UL pitchers with 139 strikeouts.
>> Mihyia Davis is batting a career-best .426, leads UL with 26 multi-hit games and is two hits shy of 80 (would be first since Ciara Bryan in 2021).
>> Louisiana is 32-4 when scoring first, though recently posted back-to-back wins when the opposition scored first (LSU, McNeese).
>> UL is one of the top producers of two-out RBI at 133, with seven players in double digits led by Alexa Langeliers (20) and Brooke Ellestad (20).
>> In SBC play the Cajuns have eight starters batting above .300, of which five are above .350 led by Brooke Ellestad's .507 mark.
>> UL pitching is limiting foes to .211 hitting in SBC play (107 hits over 143 IP).
>> Brooke Ellestad posted 26 RBI in the first half of SBC play. She reached 30 RBI in SBC play during the USM series, becoming the first Cajun to reach the mark since 2017 (DJ Sanders).
