Men’s Basketball Signs Former ESPN Top 100 Recruit in Powell

Powell led Sacramento State in scoring last season
LAFAYETTE, Louisiana – The Louisiana men's basketball team announced the signing of Duncan Powell on Friday. Powell, a 6-8 forward from Dallas, Texas, led Sacramento State in scoring and rebounding last season and was a top 100 recruit in the class of 2021 according to ESPN.
Powell averaged 12.1 points and 7.0 rebounds last season for the Hornets to lead the team. He recorded five of the team's six double-doubles, including a triple-double against Bethesda with 13 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists. Three times he scored 20 points in a game and finished in double figures 21 times.
The DeSoto High School product committed to North Carolina A&T, where he became the highest-ranked signee in school history. As a redshirt freshman, Powell averaged 8.0 points and 5.7 rebounds under now-Louisiana assistant coach Phillip Shumpert. Over the last five games of the 2022-23 season, Powell averaged 16.0 points and 9.6 rebounds.
