Louisiana's Morgan Named SBC Pitcher of the Week

Freshman improved to 4-0 with 1.03 ERA in SBC action
LAFAYETTE – Freshman left-hander Chase Morgan continued his collection of weekly accolades on Tuesday when he was named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced.

Morgan (4-1, 1.90 ERA), the second Louisiana player in as many weeks to earn SBC honors, pitched a one-hit gem in 8.0 innings of work in a series-clinching 1-0 win over Marshall on Saturday.

He struck out a career-high 11 batters and combined with JT Etheridge on the first of back-to-back one-hit, shutouts hurled by the Ragin' Cajuns and the first by the team since March 29, 2021.

Morgan's performance — in which he held Thundering Herd batters to a .040 batting average — helped lower his ERA to 1.90 on the season, a mark that paces all NCAA Division I freshmen and is 15th nationally.
