Cajuns Ready for SBC Championships After Strong Showing in Boston

2/3/2024 10:54:00 PM | Track and Field

BOSTON, Massachusetts - The Louisiana Ragin' Cajun track and field team appears poised for the Sun Belt Conference indoor championships in a few weeks after a strong showing at the Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invite in Boston. The Cajuns posted team lows in seven events, had three top-five finishes, and one new time to add to the program record book.

Peyton Chiasson made a run at the program's indoor mile record and finished with a tie of 4:08.63, good enough for the third-best time in the program's history. Joe Patterson stuck his claim at an SBC Championship in the 800-meter after running a 1:51.76, the top time in the league this season.

Trejun Jones found himself a part of two top times on Saturday. He first posted the team's best time in the 200-meter with a 21.35 before following up with a stellar performance in the 4x400-meter relay. The team of Jones, Antoni Hoyte-Small, Mekhi Boutte, and Caemon Scott clocked in at 3:14.23 to end the day.

The women also posted season bests in the 200-meter and 4x400-meter relay. Mari Robinson's 24.69 in the 200 put her at the top of the team leaderboard while Ta'La Spates, Kenzie Touchet, Quincy Simon, and Moseiha Bridgen crossed the finish line at 3:46.31 for a new season best. Another team best was posted by Brooke Spalitta in the 3,000-meter with a time of 10:29.44.

The day also saw a trio of top-five finishes by the Cajuns. Kennedy London's 8.60 in the 60-meter hurdles placed her third early in the day. Zakhy Munro clocked in at 6.81 in the men's 60-meter to finish fourth. Reem Tammam rounded out the placements with a triple jump of 39 feet 0.5 inches to finish fourth.

The Cajuns have their final meet before the conference championships tomorrow in Birmingham at the South Alabama Invitational.
