Exhibition slate kicks off March 15 at E.K. Long

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball team released its 2024 Spring schedule on Wednesday featuring a home exhibition at E.K. Long Gym against an NCAA Tournament qualifier and two additional in-state road contests.

Louisiana, prepping for Year No. 4 with head coach Kristi Gray, opens the spring slate on Friday, March 15 at 2:00 p.m. at E.K. Long Gym hosting back-to-back Southland Tournament champions and NCAA Tournament participant Southeastern Louisiana.

The SLU match at E.K. Long Gym is free and open to the public. The Ragin' Cajuns will be conducting a canned food drive to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank.

The remaining dates are on the road with Louisiana traveling to McNeese (March 19), the Houston F.A.S.T. College Invite (April 6) and LSU (April 13).

The F.A.S.T College Invite on April 6, hosted at the F.A.S.T Complex in Houston, features pool play against various college teams from the region.

The Ragin' Cajuns began Spring practice back on February 19 with 11 returners from the 2023 squad plus the addition of early enrollee Megan Hawkins (New Braunfels, Texas/Canyon HS) from the prep ranks and D1 transfers Cailin Demps (Southern Miss) and Chelsea Gilmore (N.C. State).

All-Sun Belt performers Mio Yamamoto and Siena DeCambra, the team's libero and setter, highlight the returnees. UL's list of veterans also includes middle blocker Cami Hicks, the owner of 300-pus career blocks, and Shyia Richardson who is coming off her first 300-200 season of kills and digs.

ABOUT LOUISIANA
The Ragin' Cajuns (19-13, 9-7 SBC) posted their third consecutive winning mark under the guidance of head coach Kristi Gray during the fall 2023 season. UL posted its highest win total of Gray's tenure, totaling 19 victories, and claimed an SBC Tournament win for the third consecutive season.

Balance was the key to the Cajuns success offensively and defensively, with five players posting 150-plus kills and four players collecting 200-plus digs, directed by the efforts of setter Siena DeCambra and libero Mio Yamamoto, both All-Sun Belt selections. Yamamoto was named the SBC Libero of the Year.

For the second consecutive season Gray's exciting up-tempo style of volleyball drew record numbers to E.K. Long Gym, the Cajuns setting the total attendance mark for a single season once again drawing 7,219 over the 11-match home slate.
