SBC powers set to meet for first time since 2021

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Football team returns home to Cajun Field for the first time in three weeks Saturday night when it welcomes Sun Belt Conference rival Appalachian State.

Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with the game being streamed live on ESPN+. Fans can listen to the game on the Ragin' Cajuns Radio Network with Jay Walker (play-by-play), Cody Junot (analyst) and Dawson Eiserloh (sideline) on the call.

The game, the 12th meeting in the all-time series between Louisiana (4-1, 1-0 SBC) and App State (2-3, 0-2 SBC), is the first contest between the schools since the Ragin' Cajuns claimed the 2021 SBC title with a 24-16 win at Cajun Field.

Since the divisional format was introduced in 2018, Louisiana and App State met in the SBC Championship Game in three of the first four seasons (2018, 2019, 2021).

Louisiana, which has won the last three meetings after the Mountaineers went 8-0 from 2014-2019, opened SBC play last week with a 23-13 win at Southern Miss. Ben Wooldridge tossed for a touchdown and Dre'lyn Washington added 91 yards with a rushing TD as the Ragin' Cajuns snapped an 11-game losing streak to USM dating back to 1993 and earned their first victory in Hattiesburg since 1989.

The Ragin' Cajuns return home for the first time since facing Tulane on Sept. 21. Louisiana went on the road and earned a 41-38 victory over ACC member Wake Forest on Sept. 28 before downing USM.

App State, which had its Sept. 28 game against Liberty cancelled due to Hurricane Helene, enters the contest after dropping SBC games against South Alabama (Sept. 19) and Marshall (Oct. 5). The Mountaineers opened the season with a win over FCS East Tennessee State and defeated East Carolina on the road.

Joey Aguilar has thrown for 1,523 yards and eight TDs this season for App State with Kaedin Robinson (32 receptions, 469 yards) his top receiver. Anderson Castle leads the Mountaineers on the ground with 184 yards.

Single-game tickets for Louisiana's six home games – which include remaining games against App State, Arkansas State (Nov. 9), South Alabama (Nov. 16) and Troy (Nov. 23) – are currently on sale now. Tickets start as low as $15 and can be purchased through RaginCajuns.com and its social media platforms (Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram).
