Ragin’ Cajuns Look to Continue Strong Start in Birmingham

Eight athletes set a PR at the Purple Tiger Invite
BIRMINGHAM, Alabama - Coming off a strong start to the 2024 indoor season, the Louisiana track and field team heads to Birmingham, Alabama for the Samford Invitational.
Last week at the Purple Tiger Invite, the Cajuns had eight athletes set nine personal records. Kayla Meyers set a pair of PRs in the 60-meter dash (7.90) and the 60-meter hurdles (8.69). Joining her on the hurdles with a PR was Kennedy London (8.43).
Teodor Borgius had one of Louisiana's three wins on the day. The freshman, competing in his first event, won the pole vault at 16 feet 11.5 inches. Abbey Marie Ratcliff claimed the 3k with a PR time of 10:37.00. The women's 4x400-meter relay also picked up a win with a time of 3:54.90.
Also setting PRs were Marrin Barras in the weight throw (54 feet 4.5 inches), Oliver Jack in the weight throw (56 feet 1 inch), Brooke Spalitta in the mile (5:11.59), and Joseph Patterson in the mile (4:19.74).
A total of 16 schools are scheduled to be represented in Birmingham including Sun Belt Conference foes South Alabama and Troy. Also slated to participate are Alabama, Alcorn State, Chattanooga, Hinds Community College, Jackson State, Kennesaw State, McNeese, New Orleans, Northwestern State, Samford, Shorter, Tulane, and UAB.
