Ortego, Louisiana Posts Top-Five Finish at GMAC Invitational

ONEONTA, Ala. – Eli Ortego posted his second career top-five finish after recording a 2-under-par 70 and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns fired a team score of 6-under-282 to finish fourth overall at the Graeme McDowell Invitational on Tuesday at Limestone Springs Golf Club.

Malan Potgieter used a strong finish to tie his career low round with a 5-under-67 as Louisiana moved up two spots on the final day (6-under-858) and finished behind host UAB, Lamar and Oral Roberts.

Ortego finished the 54-hole tournament for the Ragin' Cajuns with a score of 8-under-208 and two strokes behind medalists Seb Cave of UAB and Lamar's David Schneider Jarez. The junior posted 12 combined birdies in the three-day event and was 2-under-34 on the back nine during the final day.

Potgieter posted his second consecutive below-par round for the Ragin' Cajuns after equaling his previous low round (4-under-67) at the 2022 Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate. The sophomore was 2-under after a bogey at No. 14 before coming back with an eagle on the par-5, 530-yard No. 16 and a birdie at the par-4, 421-yard No. 17 to finish in a tie for 20^th place.

Dylan Keating shot a 1-over-par 73 to finish tied for 32^nd at 2-over-218 for Louisiana with Burke Alford posting a 1-over-73 to finish tied for 38^th at 4-over-220. Jake Marler capped off his week with an even-par 72 and finished at 5-over-221 for Louisiana with freshman Dillon Barnard, competing individually, shooting a 5-over-77 to finish at 12-over-228 in his collegiate debut.

UAB held on to the team title after posting a score of 4-under-284 and finishing at 22-under-842. Lamar was four strokes back in the team standings at 846 with ORU in third at 852.

Louisiana will return to action on Oct. 9-10 when it travels to compete in the USF Invitational at Southern Hills Plantation Club in Brooksville, Fla.
