The deal will keep the long-time head coach with the Ragin’ Cajuns through 2025

LAFAYETTE - Stephanie Vallejos, the winningest head coach in the history of Louisiana women's tennis, has signed a two-year contract extension.

The deal will take Vallejos through the 2025 season.

Vallejos enters her ninth season at the helm and holds a program-record 72 wins. Under her watch, four Ragin' Cajuns have been named to All-Sun Belt Conference teams, including Floraine Picaut and Clara Mantaux in 2021.

"The future is bright for the Louisiana women's tennis program, and I am excited to continue to be a part of it," said Vallejos. "I want to thank Dr. (Joseph) Savoie and Dr. (Bryan) Maggard for their continued support.  This season can't come soon enough, and we're ready to compete for a conference championship."

Last season, Louisiana posted tremendous individual performances. Coming off a strong freshman campaign, Carla Urchoeguia won seven singles matches and was 10-6 as No. 1 doubles. Her partner, freshman Angelique Berrat, led the team in overall wins with 20 and finished with an 8-4 record as the No. 3 singles player. Cristina Tchanichev also had a strong freshman year with 10 singles victories, tying her with Berrat for the most on the team.

During the 2022 spring season, Vallejos led the team to its first victory in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament since 2014.

Her first season saw the Cajuns win 11 contests, a seven-win improvement over the previous year. She won a career-high 14 matches in 2018, posting a .560 winning percentage along the way. The Cajuns caught fire to start the 2020 season, going 9-2 in non-conference action before the COVID pandemic caused the cancellation of the remainder of the season.
